Lions BrightSight

Lions and Vision Health
Helen Keller challenged Lions International to become “knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness” at the 1925 Lions International Convention in Ohio, USA. Subsequently Lions International instituted Helen Keller Day on 1 June, annually. Lions around the globe took up the challenge and vision is one of the eight global pillars of service for our members!

Lions BrightSight was initially established in 1974 as a multi-club collaboration project in what was then, District 410B. In 1991, the Council of Governors constituted the successful project as an official MD410 project called LCI Multiple District 410 Operation BrightSight.
Subsequently, our objective has been to receive prescriptions from Lions Clubs and various other organisations and to process these scripts at low cost, using new and pre-owned frames that are in excellent condition, fitted with new prescription lenses, to all in need.
The Pride of Multiple District 410
Lions BrightSight has been providing quality, cost-effective spectacles to people in need throughout Southern Africa since July 1978!
Thousands of spectacles have been distributed to people in need, bringing smiles to their faces through the gift of clear vision. Without the help of Lions Clubs and our corporate partners, they may have gone through life with impaired vision.
